Coverage

From 1921-1941, exports from Japan were to be marked “Made in Japan” or “Japan.” Previously, ceramics and other wares exported from Japan had been labelled “Nippon,” until they were mandated by Congress to change it to “Made in Japan.” Post-World War II, exports were labelled “Made in Occupied Japan” until the early 1950s, where it changed to just “Made in Japan.” (Stitt, Irene. Japanese Ceramics of the Last 100 Years. Crown Publishers, 1974).
