Coverage
The Streator Bottle & Glass Company was started in Streator, Illinois, in 1881, before merging in 1905 into the American Bottle Company, before merging again into the Owens Bottle Company, and finally, the Owens Illinois Glass Company, which still makes glass products today. The maker’s mark is most commonly seen on beer bottles, and many private brewers would have their bottles specially made by Streator. Other bottles made by them include pickle bottles, soda bottles, and more.
This shard is dated by the maker’s mark, due to its changes throughout SB & G Co’s history. According to Lockhart et. al, “SB & G Co horizontal at center of base” dates the bottle as ca. 1890-1905. This coincides with the Mold number, as the horizontal in the center mark matches with Mold numbers 1-38, and this bottle is Mold #30.
